Open Evening

Welcome to the 'Open Evening' web page for the ICT Department. This page will help to give you an insight into our department, the facilities that we have 'Coombe Dean School', and the teaching and learning that goes on through KS3, KS4 and KS5.

To get to this page, you will have already seen our school 'Virtual Learning Environment' (VLE) that is largely integrated into our ICT department lessons, and increasingly being used throughout the school.

Please feel free to explore this website, and also visit our school website at www.CoombeDean.co.uk, which also has a vast amount of information about the school in general.

We have an ever growing selection of ICT rooms and facilities here at 'Coombe Dean School', with 3 rooms being added and/or updated this year alone. These rooms are primarily used for ICT based lessons, but also utilised by a range of other subjects to enhance their teaching and learning for a wide range of different activities and tasks.

KS3

Students study a wide range of different modules throughout their ICT lessons in KS3, providing them with an enriched skills based to support their lifelong use of ICT, as well as preparing them for higher level qualifications later on in school. To allow all students to experience this mixture of lessons, ICT and technology operate a 'carousel' system in Years 7 and 8, which provides students with a chance to study 4 different modules throughout each year, before adopting a 1 lesson per week timetable in Year 9. Current ICT modules are seen in the following.

Year 7

  • Game Design
  • Animation
  • Spreadsheets and Databases
  • Creative ICT

Year 8

  • Multimedia
  • Spreadsheets and Databases
  • Creative ICT

Year 9

  • Creative ICT
  • 1 lesson a week - National Strategy and OCR Nationals

KS4

Students at KS4 follow the 'OCR Nationals' course, which provides the opportunity to study a selection of different modules at a higher level, completing projects for either a set design brief, or their own identified client, audience and purpose. Through commencement at Year 9 and through the 2 years at KS4, almost all students achieve a minimum of 2 GCSEs in ICT through completing necessary units. Current units studied can be seen in the following.

  • Unit 1 - Skills for business
  • Unit 22 - Sound
  • Unit 20 - Animation
  • Unit 2 - Web creation

This is our school 'Virtual Learning Environment' website that is used greatly in KS3, KS4 and KS5 ICT lessons, as well as increasingly more in a variety of different subjects. LearnCoombeDean allows students to access all the resources they need for a lesson, homework, and even revision, both inside and outside school. It also provides a great system for students to upload completed work for marking by teachers, providing grades and feedback to students, who can then make improvements to their work, and even upload it again for remarking. Students are also kept informed of important events, dates and deadlines through LearnCoombeDean, and have access to a wide range of resources and support through the content included in different units of work.
